Ilves 5-2 Tappara
Hee jee! Ilves murisee.
Part 1 of the Tampere derby: Ilves won with ease, dominating Tappara 5-2 and it should have been more!
After a goalless first period it took just 18 seconds of the 2nd period before Masi Marjamäki scored and gave us the lead. Antti Kangasniemi scored at 38:34 and we were looking strong and in control of the game, but then exactly a minute later former Ilves player Miikka Männikkö scored for Tappara to give them hope going into the third period.
Not long into the period Ville Korhonen had the chance to score a penalty shot, but it was well saved, Korhonen made up for it by scoring shortly afterwards. Three minutes later Tomi Wilenius scored to give us a 4-1 lead! Ilves were in complete control of the game and to top it off Toni Rajala scored with 8 minutes left to make it 5-1. Erkinjuntti scored a powerplay goal to give Tappara a consolation goal as the game finished 5-2.
Both teams meet again tomorrow and also HPK meet SaiPa so this will be a vital day for the bottom four teams, ideally Ilves and SaiPa will win. Currently we are 13th on the same points as 12th placed SaiPa, but HPK have 3 games in hand over us and are just 2 points behind. We need to win tomorrow. I really wish I could have been at the game tonight, theres no better place on earth than Hakametsän Jäähalli!!
