Ilves 3-4 Jokerit VL
I think we were lucky to get a point out of this one, after looking at the goaltender saves: Wiikman 11+17+16+0=44. Tuohimaa 4+2+7+3=16.
Things started off predictable, Rask adding his name to a very very long list that recently includes the likes of Anttila and Seikola and returned to Hakametsä with an opposition team to score against us. 25 seconds into the second period we got an equaliser from Matias Sointu (Jokipakka, Kantola).
Just a few minutes later though Jokerit took the lead once again through Filppula on the powerplay an then shortly after our former young star Joonas Rask scored against us again, 3-1 Jokerit. Maybe some karma was served as 2 minutes after it was Rask that was in the penalty box as Ilves went on the powerplay to score thanks to Samuli Kivimäki (Kangasniemi, Mäkinen) and then 48 seconds before the end of the period we completed a stunning comeback 3-3 when Sointu scored once again on the powerplay.
A goalless third period saw us take a much needed point against what is a strong Jokerit team. Jatkoaika passed so it was onto the shoot-out, something that since I’ve been watching Ilves play we’ve been awful at in Hakametsä but fairly good away from home. Esa Lindell scored the winning shoot-out goal and 2 points went back on the bus to Helsinki with him.
Tonight (Friday) we play “technically” away at Tappara, a loss would see us on 7 points from 7 games and would more than likely find ourselves in the bottom 4 in the league. A win and we would be on 10 points and firmly in touch with the Top 6, so this is so important. Tappara got a beating last night away in Lahti so hopefully we will be more confident ahead of this, we really cannot afford another game like we opened the season with.
