JYP 5-4 Ilves [J.A.]

So much to sum up in this game, probably the best we’ve played without winning this season, very very happy with the improvement in the team, even with Kantola and Marjamäki out and Rajamäki and Niinimäki still getting back to full game fitness we took it to the Champions and league leaders and pushed them all the way.

Erä.1  Kolppanen started in goal with the absence of Miika Wiikman, We scored the first goal of the game just 6 minutes in, Matias Sointu (Huhtala, Hovinen) a fantastic start, we too often go behind early on and spend the rest of the game playing comeback. Välivaara scored on the powerplay when Niinimäki was in the box to make it 1-1 but less than a minute later at 19:38 Michael Keränen (Jokipakka, Koistinen) put us back in front.

Erä.2 Orenius took an early penalty but we defended and kept our lead, up until Miika Lahti scored at 33:11 but once again the Ilves bite straight back 49 seconds later Lassi Kokkala (Sointu, Hovinen) restored our lead and that’s how the second period ended, 3-2 to us.

Erä.3 57 seconds in and tervetuloa takaisin to Erkki Rajamäki (Keränen) but just as I was getting really happy about the scoreline, heartbreak happened at the hands of former Ilves player Matias Myttynen who scored twice in 6 minutes to tie the game up 4-4.  Arto Tukio took a penalty just 14 seconds before the end of the period and thankfully we managed to keep the puck out of the net and secure the point.  Jatkoaika was always going to be tough with a man in the box and JYP scored through Ramzi Abid on the powerplay, NHL Stanley Cup winning Rich Peverly with another assist and when you look at things like that, with the injuries and shortcomings we’ve had, a point away to the league leaders is absolutely fantastic! We’ve proved that we can score goals against the best, time to get some consistency and pick up more points on the road.

Kolppanen 10+8+11+1=30

Ilves’ wins in Football and Futsal will be updated to the blog later, it’s my birthday today so I’m very happy with how ilves performed across all the different sporting teams today. Kiitos Kaikille!
