Pelicans 4-3 Ilves

Another loss, but at least we weren’t shut out

I’m not sure how many in a row this has been now but it’s starting to get worrying as IF TPS win tonight against Jokerit in Turku then Ilves will be bottom of the SM-Liiga and that’s a sight we’re all sick of seeing over the passed 4 years.

Thursday’s match against the Pelicans started with the Ilves tradition of losing an early goal, 2:09 on the clock when Janne Tavi scored for the home side, Ilves did score back 5 minutes later, Mikael Kuronen (Wilenius) getting the goal, but we were equal for all of 36 seconds when Joonas Hurri gave them back the lead.

At 14:31 Michael Keränen (Sointu) pulled us back level, but this lasted an even shorter amount of time because at 14:47 Janne Ritamäki gave Pelicans a 3-2 scoreline to end the period on.

The second period saw 6 penalties given and unfortunatly for us, Pelicans managed to get the only powerplay goal of the game, even more unlucky was the time that the goal came about, 39:59.  Just one single second before the buzzer and Timo Pärssinen makes it a 2 goal lead.

We were quiet in the third but did manage to pop up with a goal towards the end, Konsta Mäkinen (Tukio, Niinimäki) but with just 1:55 remaining there wasn’t enough time to pull level again.

I have to admit I didn’t think that I’d see Arto Tukio assisting a goal against Antti Niemi this season.

Niemi 12+8+7=27  Wiikman 9+19+8=36

Rather depressing to look at the sm-liiga table right now, our next game is Saturday away to Ässät, I believe there is a fani-matka for those interested, for those who can’t make it however please do go to Tammelan Stadion La. 20.10.2012 to cheer on Ilves against ÅIFK, a win or a draw and we are in the Ykkönen next season!
