SJK 1-2 Ilves

Three more points for the good guys

Since losing 3-0 away to FC Haka we’ve just been unstoppable and in Saturday’s game we continued our point streak and more importantly won away at the league leaders SJK.

The Ilves fans traveled in numbers to the game with Niilon Pojat representing us well again, on a really hot July day, so perfect for beer and football.  Perfect until the 42nd minute anyway, when Jyri Hietaharju was put through on goal and he rounded Mikko Kruuti and passed the ball into the net.

The second half saw all the action for ilves, firstly the equaliser was scored by Jonne Hjelm after some good Ilves passing came a low cross into the box which the SJK defence failed to clear and gifted the ball straight to Hjelm and the number 9 poked the ball under the goalie, not a beautiful goal but a vital one.

Our point streak was set to continue, against the odds away vs SJK but a 1-1 draw was more than just acceptable, but with just two minutes left in the game our hero again Jonne Hjelm scored!  The ball came into the box where he was alone with five SJK defenders, he gets a flick on the ball which is then headed by an SJK defender into his team mate, the ball comes back to Hjelm who with his back to goal, turns and volleys the ball into the bottom right hand corner, an amazing finish to the game.

Ilves remain in 3rd tonight level on points with FC Haka who will be our next opponents at home in Tampere, 13.7 at 15:00 hopefully it will be a packed out stadium and another massive three points for the famous yellow and green machine!

Kiitos Ilves!
